Stevie's burn

I have not been doing a good job keeping up with this, but for the last 10 days we have had our hands full here. Stevie managed to get a 3rd degree burn and had skin graft surgery Wednesday. He climbed up on a chair he pulled over to the stove and his sweatshirt caught fire. It didnt' have any elastic in it and I guess the chair put him at just the wrong height. I had put hotdogs on to cook and went down the hall to our room to fold clothes. I heard him scream and came running. When I couldnt' put the fire out with my hands I ripped off the shirt, and I managed to get a small burn on his face in the process. I called 911 and put wet towels on his skin, but I didn't realize he was burned all the way up to his armpit. The shirt only caught fire on the bottom four inches, in a straight line.

Anyway, two ambulance rides later we were at Temple Children's Hospital in Philadelphia, which is a wonderful place. If we win the lottery, they will get some money! He spent one night there and then was sent home based on Jon's ability to do bandage changes. The burn doc understood that changing bandages on a 3 year old was no harder than on a horse, so Jon could do it! Bug has been a trouper, needing Tylenol with codeine only first thing in the am and for bandage changes.

We brought him back in for a check and then two days ago, Wednesday, he had skin graft surgery. They took a bunch of skin from his front left thigh and grafted it to his underarm and side. It was hard because he ended up more painful than when he started, and it is hard to carry him without pressing on his wounds. But I guess it is healing well. We brought him in today and they said another bandage change Monday and the bandages will probably be off after that.

Bug and Rose watching a dvd right now, eating popsicles.
